The history of flan dates back to the ancient roman times. During roman times chickens were kept for laying eggs for the first time. The roman's developed new recipes, one turned out to be flan. Flan is a traditional Mexican dessert and there are many versions. The flan recipe is prized for its simplicity. The ingredient's you'll need to are:
1 1/2 cup of sugar
6 large eggs
1 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
2 13 oz cans of evaporated milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla

First you need to preheat the oven to 325 degrees. You will need 6 ramekins or other specialty flan cook ware and a large baking pan to put them in. Pour 1 cup of sugar in warm pan over medium heat. Constantly stir sugar until it browns and becomes caramel. Quickly pour 2-3 tablespoons of caramel in each ramekin, tilting it to swirl the caramel around the sides. Reheat caramel if it starts to harden. Mix the eggs together. Mix in the milks then slowly mix in the 1/2 cup of sugar, then add vanilla. Blend after each ingredient is added. Pour custard into caramel lines ramekins in a large glass baking dish and fill with 1-2 inches of water. Bake for 45 minutes in the water bath and check with a knife just to the side of the center. If the knife comes out clean its ready. Remove and let cool. Let sit in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

pineapple upsidedown cake

The idea of cooking a cake upside down, is an old technique that started centuries ago when cakes were cooked in a cast iron skillet. The first recorded recipe for pineapple upside down cake was in 1930. The ingredients you'll need to make this are:
1/4 cup of butter or margarine
1 cup of packed brown sugar
1 can (20 oz) of pineapple slices in juice, drained, juice reserved
1 jar (6 oz) maraschino cherries with no stem
1 box Betty Crocker super moist yellow cake mix
vegetable oil and eggs called for on the cake mix box
First you need to preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a 13 x 9 inch pan, melt butter in oven. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly on butter. Arrange pineapple slices on brown sugar. Place cherry in the center of each pineapple slice, gently press into brown sugar. Add enough water to reserve pineapple juice to measure one cup. Make cake batter as directed on box, substituting pineapple juice mixture for the water. Pour batter over pineapple and cherries. Bake 42 to 48 minutes. When done flip pan onto plate and let sit, then remove pan. Cool for 30 minutes, serve warm or cool.

French Toast

French toast is something simple that you can make in the mornings. One of the earliest versions of French toast has been traced back to the Roman Empire. The name "French toast" was first used in the 17th century in England. The recipe and name were brought to America by early settlers. In France the dish is called "pain Perdue" meaning "lost bread".
To make French toast you'll need the following ingredients:
1 egg
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon ground
1/4 cup of milk
4 slices of bread

First you need to beat the egg, vanilla, and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Then you need to stir in the milk. Dip the bread in the egg mixture turning to coat both sides evenly. cook bread slices on lightly greased nonstick griddle or skillet on medium heat until brown on both sides. Their are 99 calories per serving.

Apple crisp

The earliest reference to apple crisp in print occurs in 1924 with a recipe in the Everbody's Cook Book : A Comprehensive Manual of Home Cookery. Apple crisp can be quick to make with instant vanilla pudding and a cranberry- pecan granola mix. The ingredients you need for this quick recipe is :
5 tart apples, peeled, sliced (about 6 cups) 
1 pkg of jello flavor
1/4 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of water
3 tbsp of butter
1.5 cup of cranberry- pecan granola
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Toss apples with the next three ingredients in a large bowl. Stir in water. Spoon this into 1.5 qt baking dish. Microwave butter in medium microwavable bowl on high for 30 seconds. Stir in granola. Spoon this over Apple mixture. Bake for 50 minutes or until apples are tender. 

Easy layered Boston cream pie

Owners of the Parker House Hotel in Boston state that the Boston cream pie was first created at the hotel by Armenian-French chef M. Sanzian in 1856. For an easy recipe you need these ingredients: 
1 pkg of jello vanilla flavor instant pudding
1.5 cups of cold milk
1.5 cups of thawed cool whip
1 package of prepared angel food cake cut horizontally in three layers
2 oz BAKER'S semi-sweet chocolate chopped
To start you need to beat the pudding mix and milk in a medium bowl with a whisk for 2 minutes. Then you need to stir in 1/2 cup of cool whip. Next you need to stack the cake layers on a plate, spreading the pudding mixture between the layers. Then you need to microwave the chocolate and remaining cool whip in a microwavable bowl on high for 30 seconds. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is well blended. Lastly you put that mixture over the cake. This delicious desert can be refrigerated up to 4 hours before serving. All together there are 230 calories in this dish.

how to make brownies

Brownies are one of the most common deserts that people enjoy. Some make brownies as a gift and some make brownies just for themselves. Brownies are good for holiday dinners and good as a snack for the family. You can teach the young ones around how to cook them very simply. They can be a big help mixing the ingredients! Brownies aren't that hard to make but there are different ways to make them. A simple way includes these ingredients: 
2 cups of white sugar
1 cup of butter
1/2 cup of cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnut halves
All you have to do is melt the butter and mix all the ingredients together. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes in a 9 by 13 inch greased pan. When done cooking let t sit and cool and then cut. Use aluminum foil to cover to hold in the moisture.
